‘Family Dreams’ Collaborative Mural

I was very grateful to be a part of the lovely family day at Cien Village in September 2023.

I did some preparations using chatGPT to formulate different ideas for family group mural ideas . There were so many different ideas to choose which would look good, but I wanted to incorporate a philosophical twist to this mural and allow people to visualise their dreams.

I believe in manifestation , when we sing, paint or dance our goals and dreams, we bring them to life. So, I selected Dreams and Goals for the main idea and began to work on different themes.

The wall was 40m long and 2m high! I was very overwhelmed with algebra and equations for paint mixing and mural sizing, I had never completed such a long wall. Luckily, we had many enthusiastic children and parents to help us on the day.

Everything was going really well, I arrived a week in advance to start settling back into the Art Village, I used to have a residency there before. I had marked out all the now, 8 sections and with the help of some volunteers, we had filled in block colours. It already looked gorgeous and each section had it’s own unique theme…

The group started to paint and was really enjoying the relaxing flow. The different painting techniques and styles from everyone were so individualistic, a treat to watch. In the background another workshop is taking place and also a performance too.

Later in the day another group arrived late and decided they also wanted to paint, except these children were a little too enthusiastic and muddied up the colours and graffitied all over the previous groups work! UH OH! I didn’t fear, this is a day of expression and although it may not have been the prettiest at the end, the layers and energy were all intact. A snapshot of the current dreams and goals of the local and aboriginal community in Hualien.
